Scottish Cyclocross Series

The Scottish Cyclocross Association is pleased to unveil an exciting 2023 calendar, with the jewel in the crown a return to Knockburn Loch in Aberdeenshire for the Scottish Cyclocross Championships.

Getting underway on Sunday 17th September, the 2023 series comprises of seven races, concluding at Camperdown Park, Dundee, the home of the last two editions of the national championships.

The series showcases the very best of cyclocross in Scotland, with a variety of course types and geographical locations, from the south west to the north east.

The north east venue is of course Knockburn Loch, one of the most visited venues over the last decade, having last played host to the national championships in 2019, where Anna Flynn got the better of Isla Short in the women’s race, and Gary McDonald took the men’s title, as he did at Camperdown last winter. Typically a fast course, Knockburn is a venue where the weather is always a factor, such as in 2019 when freezing temperatures meant the technically proficient prevailed.

Irvine has fast become a Scottish classic, having held the first British Cycling National Trophy in Scotland back in 2019 - expect a healthy dose of sand to keep you on your toes! Brechin also returns, the old Equestrian Centre a new addition to the stable for 2022. The series also returns to annual host Fife College for the very last time, as development of the site means this will be the last ever mudfest at the College. Last but not least, Castle Douglas returns after a great debut in 2022; a fast flowing course In dry conditions, however with a bit of rain it can turn into a true mud bath, ready to take over the mantle from Fife College.

Once the series has concluded it’ll be all eyes on Callendar House in Falkirk, which plays host to the 2023 British Cyclocross Championships on the 13th and 14th January, which will be a massive moment for cyclocross in Scotland. The SCX series has avoided clashing with any National Trophy rounds, so to best support the top Scottish riders, whilst the Superquaich Series will run through the season, as opposed to just post-Christmas as has been the norm – more details on those fixtures in due course.
