Super Quaich Series 2018-19

With 5 rounds now confirmed the 2018/19 Super Quaich Series looks to have nicely plugged the gap left in the Scottish Cyclocross calendar during the months of December and January. New venues and fresh courses will be sure to whet CX appetites, alongside perennial SQ favourites Doonbank Trofee and RGCX.

Words: John-Paul Baxter

The series kicks off in South Ayrshire on December 9th at Rozelle Park where the folks from Ayr Burners will present the 5th edition of the Doonbank Trofee. Course tweaks have been made but Chris and JP are happy to report (ominously) that the trademark DBT features will remain. This race will also incorporate the Male and Female South West Regional Championship.

Newcomers Montvelo CC follow a week later on the 16th December with Mo Cross. Held on the East Links of Montrose this fantastic coastal setting features all the different terrains you could possibly wish for in a race. Andy from Montvelo claims the ground runs fast and firm all year round - don't pack away your file treads just yet.

Following the festive break the racing returns with a 3 week block sure to blow away any residual New Year excesses. Battle of the Bing, our own version of roller-happy Azencross, brings its good vibes back to Broxburn and joins the Super Quaich on Jan 6th, with Thistly Cross welcomed into the fray again, this time in the grandeur of the Winton Castle estate on Saturday the 12th of January.

The fitting finale is of course RGCX on January 20th. Jim Cameron and the Albannach crew can rightly lay claim to being in possession of one of the finest amphitheatres of cyclocross in the country, with last year's course changes adding yet more rider excitement and thrills into the heady magenta mix. From the lung busting start ramp to the epic podium setting this one ticks all the boxes - and don't forget the snow of course (TBC).
