2021 season sum-up
2021-2022 Scottish Cyclocross season sees the return of racing and welcomes back over 800 riders.
Despite the challenges around returning to racing during Covid-19 recovery, the Scottish cyclocross racing calendar saw the return over a dozen races put on across the country, which were enjoyed by over 800 people in 2021-2022.
Analysis of the 11 events where timing was provided by Pedal Motion shows that:
a total of 860 people entered races;
of those entered, there was a 72% male/28% female split and a 67% junior/33% under-16 split;
59% riders entered multiple races;
V40M was the largest rider group;
there was a total of 238 female riders.
Howard Perkins, Scottish Cyclocross Committee Chair said:
“Given that a year ago we did not know if there would be any racing, the fact that more than a dozen races took place is a good outcome. However, it was not a “normal” season and there was no SCX Series.
Despite increasing numbers, the overall picture is that participation is heavily weighted towards the male and older age categories. We will work with race organisers and Scottish Cycling, to strive for a Series in 2022 that is inclusive and welcoming to everyone across all categories.”
